Creative Industries and The Arts
Through studying in the Creative Industries and Arts, students build a broad range of skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, personal resilience through technology and creativity. Through the Elective Learning Opportunities, students are able to access all 5 arts strands from Years 7 to 9. These electives lead directly to senior with all five arts strands being offered in Year 10 and as part of the Years 11 and 12 Senior Pathway.
Dance
In dance, students develop knowledge, understanding and skills to communicate ideas using the elements of dance, including space, time, dynamics and relationships. They will work with the body as the instrument and movement as the medium of dance, using dance composition processes to explore, organise and refine movement for choreography and performance. Students are able to undertake Dance throughout junior secondary as an elective subject for one semester per year. In Year 10 they can undertake it for a full year, with options for continuing their Dance studies in Year 11 and 12.
Drama
In drama, students explore, depict and celebrate human experience by imagining and representing other people through live enactment. Drama is a collaborative art, combining physical, verbal, visual and aural dimensions. In drama students experience theatre and develop an understanding of the performer/audience relationship. Students are able to undertake Drama throughout junior secondary as an elective subject for one semester per year. In senior, they can undertake it for a full year in Year 10 in readiness for General Drama.
Media Arts and Film, TV and New Media
In a world now flooded with mobile media platforms, media arts students develop knowledge, understanding and skills in the creative use of communications technologies and digital materials to tell stories and explore concepts for diverse purposes and audiences. Media artists represent the world using multiple platforms such as television, film, newspapers, radio, video games, the internet and mobile media. Students are able to undertake Media Arts throughout junior secondary as an elective subject for one semester per year. In senior, they can undertake it for a full year in Year 10 in readiness for General Film, TV and New Media.
Music
In music, students use the concepts and materials of music to compose, improvise, arrange, perform, conduct and respond to their own and others’ work. They learn the elements of music and apply this knowledge to the materials of music, including the voice, instruments, found sound sources and information and communication technology. Music is developmental and relies on the sequential progression of critical literacies, including aural, kinaesthetic, oral, visual, written and digital. Therefore the junior music program allows students to develop their musicianship and musical skills sequentially. Students are able to undertake Music throughout junior secondary as an elective subject for one semester per year, and both semesters in Year 9. In senior they can undertake it for a full year in Year 10 in readiness for Music in senior. Students may apply to undertake Senior Music Extension in Year 12.
