Chancellor State College has a successful literacy improvement agenda, underpinned by Dr Munro’s High Reliability Literacy Teaching Procedures, which reflect the national, regional and State Schooling priority area of literacy with a dedicated Literacy Professional Learning Community.
With a systematic approach to analysing and responding to student data and feedback we have developed a high performing practice that focuses on student learning. Key areas of foci include providing learning intervention as well as supportive and challenging learning opportunities with tracking capabilities. The Literacy program at a glance outlines our key areas of focus as well as our links from Prep to Year 12.
Our expert teacher teams continually frame conversations around Sharratt’s key questions:
- What am I teaching?
- Why am I teaching it?
- How will I teach it?
- How will I know when all students have learnt it?
- What’s next?
Developing independent 21st Century and successful learners through teacher expertise in effective pedagogy is gained through collaboration and our Literacy Mentoring Program with a key focus on:
- Building a P-12 Literacy common practice and common language
- Effective and researched teaching strategies with data informing practice
- Putting faces on the data.
- The use of formative assessment and communication with students that makes learning goals and success criteria visible within the classroom.
