This pursuit of excellence is reflected in the innovative curriculum structures across the primary, middle and senior schools. These structures are significant in allowing each individual in our college community to be the best they can be. Our involvement as the only Australian school in Microsoft’s Innovative Schools global research community allows us the opportunity to ensure the blended-learning environment evident at the College is at the cutting edge of 21st Century Learning. This focus on professional practice authenticates the processes our teachers use to select and design learning experiences using a range of tools, both digital and non-digital, to support the learning needs of our students. This approach to curriculum design allows our students to be engaged in a range of learning opportunities, where they are immersed in an environment based on a natural balance between technology-enabled activities, and activities that have stood the test of time, as the best way to achieve a given outcome.
The flexibility in learning pathways that these partnerships offer our students redefines on a personal basis the Senior Phase of Learning. The “My Journey” curriculum in the middle and senior phases bring students to a point in Year 10 where they must begin to make the significant decisions about their futures. The Senior Education and Training Planning process supports our students to answer the question “What will the senior phase of learning look like for Me?” It is our belief that the Mobile electronic Learning Program provides the tools and curriculum programs so students can individualise their learning, or in their words, a focus on “Me LEARNING!” Each student’s Me LEARNING notebook computer affords the opportunity to enter a new world of curriculum possibilities, allowing authentic engagement and involvement in their learning. Learning experiences are purposefully designed to develop the attributes of a life-long learner. In this way, each student learns to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, practices and attitudes necessary to be an engaged, robust 21st century citizen capable of shaping our future. |
