Units of Excellence are collaboratively designed by groups of teachers and the Primary Campus Head of Curriculum. These Units are organised around what we call the Five Worlds: Our Natural World, Our Changing World, Our United World, Our Personal World and Our Amazing World.
Most of the Units of Excellence are grounded within the SOSE, Science and HPE syllabus documents. Literacy, Technology and the Arts are incorporated within the Units.
Our Natural World
These units investigate how the living and non-living components of nature interact to form our diverse and complex world. Students form a growing understanding of the way that living things function and interact with the environment. Through this understanding, students will identify how we can better manage the resource that is our Natural World.
Our Personal World
These units explore the ways in which our personal identity, relationships, growth and development influence our health. Students will discover that our Personal World has a number of dimensions- physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual - and that our health is maintained and enhanced by our individual action and the combined actions of our community.
Our Changing World
These units involve students developing an understanding of change and continuity in society from ancient to modern times. There is a focus on issues related to citizenship, government and people’s access to resources and power. Students learn about people and their contributions to our world over time and the impact of their ideas and actions on the dynamic interrelationships within our Changing World.
Our Amazing World
These units investigate the forces which influence the motion, shape, behaviour and energy of all objects. Students will discover the Amazing World of energy and force, and why it is a point of fascination and intrigue. Students will recognise the importance of developing more effective methods of harnessing and controlling energy, and the social and environmental consequences of choices made now.
Our United World
These units focus on developing an understanding of cultural diversity, the construction of cultural identity and a sense of belonging. Students explore the interactions of humans with their environment and the significance of geographical location and sense of home. The concept of a membership of the world community - the United World - is the key aspect of these units.
